Android 12 is presently
You can now see the Android 12 Easter egg in the latest beta! If you can't wait to check it out for yourself, you can see it in action in our article below
Android 12 is presently in development, and the fourth version of the Android 12 Beta (excluding Developer Previews) is now rolling out to Pixel smartphones. This is an important release, according to the Android Developers Blog, since it puts Android 12 into the final phase of testing.
Android 12 Beta 4 has reached Platform Stability, a milestone that means all app-facing surfaces and behaviors are now final in Android 12. This includes not only the official SDK and NDK APIs, but also final app-facing system behaviors and restrictions on non-SDK interfaces that may affect apps. So from Beta 4, you can confidently release your compatibility updates knowing that the platform won’t change.
Because Android 12's app behaviours will not change between now and the final public release of Android 12, developers should "start final compatibility testing for applications, SDKs, and libraries." This means we're getting closer to seeing Android 12 in its final form, which will be available on Google's upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones. There is one more Beta before the official release of Android 12, so it's possible that we'll see it in late September or early October.
Users who have signed up for the Google Pixel beta program should be able to get the latest update right now. By visiting this website and logging in, Google Pixel devices dating back to the Google Pixel 3 are able to participate. Their Pixel phone was linked to their Google account. Non-Pixel devices will also receive Beta 4 if they are registered in the beta.
